5.0 out of 5 stars When the Past Wakes Up Angry

Daughter of Deceit: Decadence pulled me in with its atmosphere right away. The world of the Orb feels vast and weathered—wild seas, divided lands, ancient creatures just trying to survive in a place that no longer feels balanced. There’s a constant sense that something old and dangerous is waking up, and that tension lingers in the background of every chapter.

What I really enjoyed is that this isn’t just a simple “North versus South” fantasy conflict. The threat feels deeper than politics or territory. There’s mystery layered into the history of the world—forgotten truths, erased stories, and legends that clearly were never meant to stay buried. The idea that the greatest danger comes not just from outside forces but from within makes the stakes feel more personal and unsettling.

Tarya, Christoph, and the rest of the crew are especially refreshing. Instead of young, wide-eyed heroes, we get characters who are older, worn down, and very aware of their limits. There’s something compelling about watching people who expected peace—or even the end—get pulled back into chaos. Their age adds weight to their journey. They’re not chasing glory; they’re trying to survive, make sense of the past, and maybe fix a few old wrongs along the way.

I also appreciated the balance of tone. For all the looming darkness and ancient beasts, there’s humor scattered throughout—especially in the camaraderie, stubbornness, and yes, the beer. It keeps the story from becoming too heavy and makes the characters feel real.

Overall, Daughter of Deceit: Decadence feels like the beginning of a layered fantasy series with deep lore and slow-burning revelations. It’s a story about aging, memory, survival, and the consequences of things long buried. If you enjoy immersive worlds, ancient myths reawakening, and characters who are as flawed as they are determined, this book is definitely worth the journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dark Fantasy That Still Spoke to My Inner Child

As a mom of three, I like to think I still carry my inner child with me—and Daughter of Deceit: Decadence reminded me why fantasy stories still matter. The world is dark and dangerous, but it’s also imaginative and immersive in a way that pulled me right out of my routine and into the story.

I enjoyed the layers of deception, magic, and morally complex characters. The main character’s journey kept my attention, and the tension throughout the story made it hard to put down. Even with its darker themes, the sense of wonder and adventure is still there, which really spoke to me.

Paraphrased line from the book:
In this world, truth is fragile, and survival often depends on who controls the lie.

Overall, this was an engaging read that balanced darkness with imagination. If you enjoy fantasy with intrigue, danger, and depth—and you still believe in the magic of a good story—this one is worth picking up.z

This book was such a page turner. Lots of complex characters and creative imagery. I tend to guess what happens next in most books, but I couldn't in this one, which was so much more interesting. If you love fantasy with some twists, and are ready to be immersed in a different time and place, this is the book for you!
